Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, following the recovery of 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his private part and stomach. The arrest and subsequent recovery were detailed in a statement issued on Sunday, October 12, 2025, by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja. Ejiofor, who reportedly operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was taken into custody upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, based on credible intelligence.

A body scan conducted on Ejiofor confirmed the presence of ingested illicit drugs and some concealed in his private parts. Immediately, 58 wraps of cocaine were recovered from his pants. He was then placed under excretion observation, during which he egested an additional 69 pellets of cocaine in seven separate excretions. This brought the total number of wraps of the Class A drug recovered from him to 127, with a total weight of 1.388 kilograms.

Beyond this significant arrest, NDLEA operatives reported a series of other successful interdictions across various locations. At a courier company in Lagos, between Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10, three consignments of illicit drugs bound for the United Kingdom were intercepted. These seizures included 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine cleverly hidden in blocks of glass ceramics, 114 grams of pentazocine injections, 168 grams of tramadol injections, and 48 grams of tramadol capsules concealed within Vitamin C containers.

Further operations at Lagos courier companies thwarted attempts by other criminal syndicates to export various illicit substances. These included 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol 250mg ingeniously hidden in tablets of black soap, destined for Turkey. Also intercepted were 169 grams of cocaine concealed in lady’s handbags en route to Australia, and 568 grams of "Loud," a potent strain of cannabis, hidden in containers of herbs, with the United Arab Emirates as its final destination.

At the export shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks, intended for South Africa. This operation led to the initial arrest of a freight agent and a cab driver, followed by a meticulous follow-up operation on October 2 at Oyingbo market in Lagos, which resulted in the apprehension of the mastermind, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow). On the same date, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Uyimwen, was arrested by operatives for attempting to export 3,700 pills of tramadol 225mg and 2,600 tablets of tapentadol 200mg, meticulously hidden within food items, to Italy. Uyimwen claimed he was trafficking the opioids for someone else for a fee of €945.

State commands also recorded significant seizures and arrests. In Edo State, a raid on the home of Emmanuel Sunday, 33, at Ugbekpe Ekperi in Etsako Central LGA, yielded 47 kilograms of skunk. In Osun State, on Wednesday, October 8, two suspects, Nureni Eleweodo, 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, 52, were arrested at Omifufun village, Ife South LGA, following the seizure of 635 kilograms of skunk from their Toyota Hiace bus. At the same location, Timothy Omiwole, 41, and Isaac Achiatan, 36, were apprehended with 100 kilograms of skunk recovered from them along with their motorcycle.

In Rivers State, Okoro Julius, 20, and Onyebuchi Nwibo, 25, were arrested on Friday, October 10, in different parts of Port Harcourt in connection with the seizure of 8.5 kilograms of skunk. The following day, Saturday, October 11, in Katsina State, Sulaiman Kalalu, 46, was nabbed after 29.5 kilograms of the same substance were found in his house at Bayan Asiti, Jibia town. In Niger State, on Wednesday, October 8, NDLEA officers arrested Yisa Daniel, 29, at New Bussa, seizing 22,000 capsules of tramadol, 800 ampoules of pentazocine injection, and 150,000 pills of exol-5.

Furthermore, in Ondo State, 312 kilograms of skunk were recovered from a bush at Ologede camp, Ogbese, while operatives on patrol along the Benin-Lagos expressway on Thursday, October 9, intercepted Francis John, 39, and Adeyemi Taiwo, 46, in a car conveying 141.8 kilograms of skunk. In Kaduna, Rufai Ahmed, 27, (alias Farin Malam) was nabbed at the Abuja/Kaduna toll gate while transporting 150,000 pills of exol-5 from Lagos to Katsina.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the MMIA, MAKIA, DOGI, Kano, Edo, Rivers, Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Osun commands for their diligence in these arrests and seizures. He urged them and their counterparts nationwide to maintain their tenacity, professionalism, and balanced approach to the agency's drug control efforts, emphasizing the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities across schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities.
