Manchester City Hit With Major Blow as Midfield Maestro Rodri Faces Injury Layoff
Manchester City's star midfielder, Rodri, is set to miss the crucial Premier League trip to Burnley, as confirmed by manager Pep Guardiola. Rodri was substituted late during City's recent victory over Arsenal due to a groin problem and underwent tests on Monday. While he will be unavailable for the midweek fixture at Turf Moor, Guardiola has moved to allay fears regarding a prolonged absence for the 29-year-old, indicating that the injury is not expected to keep him out for an extended period during the decisive title run-in.
Guardiola expressed optimism about Rodri's swift return, suggesting he might be ready for the FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton on Saturday, or potentially for the league game against Everton in approximately 12 days. This news comes as Manchester City continue their intense pursuit of the Premier League title, having moved within three points of current leaders Arsenal following their significant 2-1 win over Mikel Arteta's side. A victory against Burnley would see City temporarily ascend to the top of the league table.
Following the vital win against Arsenal, Pep Guardiola immediately cautioned his players against complacency. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and not squandering the momentum gained from defeating the league leaders. "We talk immediately in the dressing room after the game -- don't lose focus," Guardiola stated. He reminded his squad that Arsenal currently holds the top spot and would be champions if the season ended today. With a shorter recovery period between games, Guardiola stressed the need for players to recover both emotionally and physically, urging them to perform at the required level against relegation-threatened Burnley to secure the win.
