Malava By-election Ignites Political Storm After UDA Aspirant's Death

The sudden death of Dr. Enock Andaje, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant for the Malava parliamentary seat, has triggered significant political controversy and accusations among leaders. Dr. Andaje collapsed at the gate of Bulupi Primary School in Malava while attending a women’s empowerment event presided over by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Oasis Hospital in Kakamega town.
Following his demise, several political figures voiced strong concerns regarding party nomination processes. Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula alleged that Dr. Andaje succumbed to political pressure, claiming he was promised a direct UDA ticket, prompting him to resign as Chief Principal at Bungoma High School, only to face a plot to deny him the chance in favor of another candidate. Savula urged political parties to ensure fair and transparent nominations, emphasizing that such processes should not be matters of life and death, and aspirants need early clarity on the nomination method.
