Major Casting Shake-Up Rocks Hit Series 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' for Season 2!

A new “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” are finally in action, as Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series has started production after a monthslong delay.

According to sources, Talia Ryder has replaced Sophie Thatcher in the lead role. She will star opposite “Anora” breakout Mark Eydelshteyn, who was previously announced.

Amazon Prime Video declined to comment.

The two take over the roles from Erskine and Donald Glover, who anchored the series’ New York-set first season.

Anna Ouyang Moench(“Severance,” “Beef”) has also taken the reins from Francesca Sloane as showrunner and writer.

This next installment is shooting in Los Angeles after the production received a $22.4M tax credit from the California Film Commission to relocate.

The season was initially set to film in fall 2025 but was put on an indefinite delay.

The first season ended with a cliffhanger, leaving the fates of Erskine and Glovers’ characters in limbo.

But Varietyreported in 2024that the two actors would not be at the center of the next season of the show, which would take on more of an anthology format.

Ryder is known for her roles in “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,”“The Sweet East” and “Do Revenge.”

While no additional cast except for Eydelshteyn has been announced by Amazon, it is likely the second season of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” will feature an eye-popping list of guest stars.

The globe-trotting Season 1 featured Paul Dano, John Turturro, Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sharon Horgan and Ron Perlman.

This marks a notable shift in the production's trajectory, further highlighting the dynamic nature of television casting.

The trade publication also reports that despite these casting adjustments and a month-long delay, the second season of the series is now officially in production, moving forward with its new lead actress.
