Major Banking App Shake-Up: GTBank Mobile App Closing by May 1st!

Guaranty Bank Trust Limited (GTB), a prominent Nigerian commercial bank, announced the cessation of support for its long-standing GTBank Mobile App, effective May 1, 2023. This decision follows a period of mounting customer dissatisfaction, widely reported across social media, concerning issues such as login failures and disappearing transaction histories. Launched a decade ago, the legacy app had served customers by facilitating essential digital services like transfers and airtime purchases directly from their bank accounts.
In response to these challenges and to align with its customer-centric digital strategy, GTB is urging its customers to transition to its new and advanced mobile banking application, GTWorld. Originally launched in May 2017, GTWorld holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first fully biometric mobile banking app capable of processing a wide array of digital transactions. It was specifically designed to provide an easy, seamless, and comprehensive banking experience for all customer needs.
GTWorld significantly enhances security and convenience through its cutting-edge features. It incorporates biometric authentication methods, including finger pins and facial recognition, establishing robust security pathways that allow customers to access banking services without physical involvement. Furthermore, the app boasts a "Quick feature," enabling users to perform certain transactions swiftly without the necessity of a full login, streamlining routine banking tasks.
Beyond security, GTWorld introduces a suite of novel functionalities that revolutionize banking accessibility. Customers can now send money to recipients using only their mobile phone numbers, withdraw cash from ATMs without needing a physical debit card, and conduct self-transfers seamlessly without logging into the application. These features underscore the bank's commitment to offering unparalleled convenience.
For small business owners, GTWorld offers an effortless switch to GAPS-Lite, the bank's dedicated online banking platform. This integration provides a flexible and secure channel for making payments and collections anywhere in the world. When operating in GAPS-Lite mode, the software equips small businesses with real-time monitoring of all transactions, alongside the capability to execute bulk transactions and one-time transfers to any account globally, simplifying financial management.
The imperative for such advanced mobile banking solutions is rooted in Nigeria's rapidly evolving technological ecosystem, marked by significant smartphone penetration and a commendable adoption of mobile banking services. Amidst this growth, smartphone users have become increasingly discerning, prioritizing security, ease of use, speed, efficiency, and comfort in their mobile banking experiences, all of which GTWorld aims to address comprehensively.
Commenting on the transformative impact of GTWorld, Segun Agbaje, the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank plc, stated, “We are delighted to be at the forefront of digital banking solutions that are making banking faster, easier, and safer for our customers.” He further emphasized that “The simplicity of GTWorld and innovations such as facial recognition and fingerprint also ensure that our customers enjoy a seamless experience anywhere, anytime, and anyhow that they choose to bank,” reflecting the bank’s dedication to an ecosystem offering benefits beyond traditional banking.
Migrating to the GTWorld app is designed to be straightforward for existing GTB Mobile App digital account holders. Users simply need to download the latest version of GTWorld from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. There is no requirement to sign up again, as existing user IDs and passwords are automatically profiled and remain valid. Moreover, GTWorld provides expanded login options, allowing customers to use their registered email address or mobile phone number as an alternative user ID, with preferences customizable in settings. First-time users are guided through a simple authorization process for their mobile phone upon initial login, and have the flexibility to maintain their existing transaction PIN or set a new one.
GTBank reiterates its unwavering commitment to investing in new technologies to continuously enhance user experiences. As part of this ongoing dedication, the bank is already on the verge of completing the second version of the GTWorld app, promising further innovations and improvements for its customers.
