Local Fury Unleashed: Katsina Hisbah Board Obliterates 120 Cartons of 'Unlawful' Alcohol

The Katsina State Hisbah Board conducted a significant operation in Funtua, destroying over 120 cartons of seized alcoholic drinks. This action, carried out on Thursday, November 13, 2025, is part of an ongoing campaign against activities considered to be in violation of Islamic teachings and public morality. The destruction exercise was spearheaded by D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, Commander of the Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Local Government Area, who was supported by officials from the Funtua zone.

The operation also saw the presence of the State Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, C.G. Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD, who visited the site to oversee the enforcement activities. Hisbah officials clarified that the confiscated alcohol was intercepted during routine operations specifically designed to curb the consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants, which are deemed unlawful under Islamic law.

Hisbah authorities emphasized that such decisive actions are crucial for addressing what they perceive as a rise in moral decadence within the region. During the event, numerous Islamic scholars delivered powerful admonitions, highlighting the severe dangers associated with alcohol consumption. They firmly reiterated that intoxicants are unequivocally forbidden in Islam and serve as a significant source of societal destruction.

Following the destruction exercise, Commander-General Sheikh Abu-Ammar reaffirmed the board’s unwavering commitment to combating alcohol-related activities. He noted that this fight has been continuous since the Hisbah Board was re-established by the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda. Sheikh Abu-Ammar commended Governor Radda's dedication to strengthening the institution, describing it as both admirable and timely, particularly in tackling challenges that undermine the moral fabric of communities throughout the state. The event concluded with the attendance of senior Hisbah Board officials from the Funtua zone and respected Islamic scholars from various parts of the region.
