Lizzo Breaks Silence: Pop Star Vows Truth Will Emerge in Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Battle

Grammy-winning artist Lizzo is firmly standing her ground amidst an ongoing legal battle with her former backup dancers, who filed a lawsuit in 2023 alleging sexual harassment and a toxic workplace environment. Lizzo vehemently denies these allegations and has publicly stated her refusal to settle the case, expressing her readiness to proceed to court if necessary.
In a recent interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Lizzo acknowledged that settling the case would likely be a simpler route but emphasized her commitment to fighting for a legal victory. "Most people would [settle]," she told King. "I think it is an easy out, but I'm fighting the case because I know that it's not true." She expressed eagerness for the lawsuit to be dismissed, taking the matter extremely seriously due to her public persona and what she represents to her fans. Lizzo firmly believes that "The truth will come out," adding, "And that's why I'm not afraid of it. The truth is less salacious than the headlines."
The lawsuit, which Lizzo's lawyers have dismissed as a "fabricated sob story," includes accusations that the singer pressured dancers into inappropriately touching nude performers at a sex show in Amsterdam and perpetuated racial and religious discrimination. While these claims remain, a significant development occurred in December when a judge dismissed the allegations of fat-shaming. Following this, Lizzo posted an Instagram video stating, "This claim has haunted me since the day it came out… I will be fighting every single claim until the truth is out."
Lizzo further clarified her position on the fat-shaming claims, asserting, "There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight. Because it never happened." She explained that the dancers were fired for "taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees," not for their weight. She reiterated her consistent encouragement and support for individuals with bigger bodies, often sharing her platform with them.
As the remaining aspects of the case continue to be pending, Lizzo is also preparing for the release of her new album, titled 'Bitch', scheduled for June 5. When questioned about how she maintains her composure and focus amidst the legal turmoil, the musician confidently told King, "I know the music is good, and I know my heart is good." She concluded, "If I know that, I have nothing to worry about."
