LeBron James has acknowledged ongoing uncertainty about his future beyond his record-setting 23rd NBA season.

While he declined to elaborate on potential retirement plans, he reaffirmed his long-standing interest in joining an NBA ownership group.

That possibility may gain traction soon, as Commissioner Adam Silver has indicated the league’s board of governors will address expansion in March.

For now, however, James remains focused strictly on competing.

The 41-year-old is in the final year of his $52.6 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, but emphasized that his priority is the team’s postseason push rather than his individual status.

He described the Lakers as “gearing up towards the postseason,” maintaining the same motivation as they shift from the regular season’s endurance test to the intensity of playoff positioning.

Los Angeles currently sits fifth in the Western Conference at 33–21.

James offered a candid evaluation of the team’s performance, noting its inconsistency. Through 54 games, the Lakers have scored and conceded an identical 6,264 points, underscoring their fluctuating form.

Health, James stressed, is the decisive factor. He, Luka Dončić, and Austin Reaves have been available together for only 10 games this season, producing a 7–3 record in that span.

With Dončić returning from a mild hamstring strain and the roster bolstered by additions such as Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia, and Luke Kennard, James acknowledged the challenge of building chemistry within a reconfigured lineup.

“Most important for our ballclub right now is health,” he said, adding that it remains difficult to project the team’s ceiling without sustained continuity heading into the playoffs.
