Kate Hudson Unveils Her Biggest Fear: The Netflix Scene That Left Her Intimidated!

Netflix's sports comedy "Running Point" has officially returned for its highly anticipated second season, continuing the story of Isla Gordon, portrayed by Kate Hudson. As the newly appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team, Isla is determined to lead her family's team to a championship title. Season 2, however, delves deeper into her personal and professional challenges, picking up after the Waves' devastating playoff loss and introducing new complexities.
A significant plot point in the new season is the return of Isla's older brother, Cam (Justin Theroux), who has recently come out of rehab and is intent on reclaiming leadership of the team. This family dynamic, coupled with the general scrutiny Isla faces as a woman in the demanding sports world, adds considerable pressure. Furthermore, her personal relationships, including those with her longtime boyfriend Lev (Max Greenfield) and her best friend and co-worker Ali (Brenda Song), are also under increasing strain. Isla finds herself navigating a complex web of responsibilities and expectations.
In an interview with Collider, Kate Hudson discussed the evolving nature of Isla's character in Season 2. While Season 1 showcased Isla as an effective leader, the new season provocatively questions her integrity as a "good person." Hudson explains that the immense pressure from all aspects of Isla's life—especially the re-emergence of her brother—forces her to re-evaluate her desires for the job, its true meaning to her, and how her personal life fits into the professional sphere. Isla grapples with the notion of whether she must adopt a more self-centered approach to succeed in her high-stakes role, creating fertile ground for both drama and comedy.
Both Kate Hudson and Brenda Song emphasized the pivotal role of the friendship between Isla and Ali in Season 2. Hudson revealed that Isla, having never truly had a close female friend, finds invaluable raw honesty and unwavering support in Ali. Song reinforced this, describing Ali as Isla's "biggest cheerleader," a loyal confidante who fundamentally believes in Isla's capabilities. The unique dynamic of being best friends first and co-workers second inevitably leads to moments of tension and miscommunication, yet their bond remains strong. Ali's deep understanding of the turbulent Gordon family dynamics allows her to serve as Isla's steadfast protector, metaphorically ready to "go down with the ship" and embodying true integrity in a morally ambiguous family environment. This profound connection is built on shared vulnerabilities and a mutual understanding of each other's deepest secrets, making their friendship a significant "love story" of the season.
Beyond the character development, Kate Hudson also shared insights into her experience on set, specifically comparing the intimidation levels of basketball drills versus a choreographed dance scene. Surprisingly, Hudson found the dance number with the Waves dancers far more daunting than any basketball preparation. She explained that having not danced in a considerable time, she had to re-engage her dormant "dance muscle." The challenge was intensified by the minimal rehearsal time, with Hudson reportedly learning the complex choreography just the day before shooting. This experience, while demanding, ultimately inspired her to consider returning to dance classes. The interview also touched upon the family aspect of the show, noting that a real-life relative, Oliver Hudson (Kate's brother), was brought in to play Cousin Bennie, underscoring the importance of family ties within the series.
With its intricate plot, deep character exploration, and compelling performances, "Running Point" Season 2 promises a jam-packed and entertaining viewing experience for Netflix audiences.
