Kano Tragedy: 8-Year-Old Dies in Horrific Accident

An eight-year-old girl, Siyama Idris, tragically lost her life after falling on an exposed iron rod at an ongoing road and drainage construction site in Tudun Wada quarters of Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on Saturday near Tudun Wada Primary School, where construction work is actively underway.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying details to Daily Trust, explaining that Siyama was on an errand to a nearby shop to purchase items for Ramadan iftar. While attempting to cross the drainage using a makeshift wooden plank bridge, she unfortunately slipped.

"She slipped and fell directly on an uncovered iron rod used for the drainage structure. It pierced her stomach and she died instantly," stated Aminu Adamu, a resident of the area, highlighting the immediate and fatal nature of the injury.

Another witness, Balarabe Isah, further emphasized the precarious situation faced by local residents.

He revealed that the community has been forced to rely on this dangerous plank bridge for an extended period due to the complete absence of a proper pedestrian crossing at the site.

Isah critically described the construction area as inherently unsafe, citing numerous exposed metal rods and unprotected open drainage edges that constantly pose significant risks to daily passersby, especially children.

Community members have collectively voiced their outrage and blame the poor safety measures implemented at the construction site for this avoidable tragedy.

They are now urgently calling upon relevant authorities to enforce far stricter safety precautions and oversight to prevent any further loss of innocent lives in the area, ensuring such a devastating incident does not recur.
