Kano Lawmaker Calls Wike an ‘Asset’ to APC and Tinubu
Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin has lauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as a critical asset to the APC and President Tinubu's administration, despite Wike's PDP affiliation. Jibrin highlighted Wike's significant contributions to managing opposition, strengthening the APC in Rivers State, and aiding the government's 2027 political strategy. He also advised political stakeholders to manage disagreements with Wike privately, treating him as an integral part of the political family.
Kano lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin has described FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as an “asset” to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu, despite Wike remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jibrin said Wike had made political sacrifices in support of Tinubu and claimed that APC members had benefited directly or indirectly from his efforts. He specifically pointed to Wike’s political influence in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, arguing that the minister’s activities had strengthened the ruling party’s political position.
Jibrin said Wike’s role extends beyond his ministerial responsibilities, including his participation in a cross-party political coalition supporting Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. He argued that APC governors should treat Wike as part of their broader political structure and manage disagreements with him privately rather than through public confrontations.
His comments come amid tensions between Wike and some APC governors, while Wike has maintained that he supports Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 but that the PDP should remain free to field candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
Jibrin acknowledged Wike’s political style and “idiosyncrasies” but said his contributions should not be overlooked, describing him as a political operator who brings value to the administration and its wider coalition. He also referred to Wike as the “number 32 governor” and urged President Tinubu to give him greater support, while saying politicians from other parties had expressed concern over public criticism of the minister.
The remarks come as the APC’s relationship with Wike remains a subject of debate ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly over his continued PDP membership, his support for Tinubu, and his political activities through the Rainbow Coalition.
