Kano Horror: Man Stabs Grandparents to Death Over Food Dispute

The Kano State Police Command has reported a tragic incident in which a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death following a quarrel over food. The culpable homicide was reported on Thursday morning, September 25, 2025, at approximately 09:30 AM, from the Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, Kano.
According to the Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, engaged in a disagreement with his 75-year-old grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, and 65-year-old grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, concerning food. During this altercation, Ibrahim allegedly used a knife to inflict severe stab wounds on various parts of both victims' bodies.
Following the brutal attack, the elderly couple was immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. Tragically, medical personnel at the hospital confirmed both Muhammad Dansokoto and Hadiza Tasidi dead. Their corpses were subsequently examined and released to their relatives for burial, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The police stated that Mutawakilu Ibrahim, who is suspected to have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the assault, was promptly arrested. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a discreet and thorough investigation. Upon the completion of this investigation, the suspect will be formally charged to court.
