Jibrin Accuses NDC Supporters of Provocation Ahead of 2027 Election
A House of Representatives member, Abdulmumini Jibrin, has accused NDC supporters of deliberately creating tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections through the burning of campaign symbols. Jibrin warned that APC supporters would retaliate against any acts of ridicule targeting President Tinubu, the governor, or the party, viewing their response as necessary self-defense.
House of Representatives member Abdulmumini Jibrin has accused supporters of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately stoking political tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jibrin linked the allegation to recent incidents involving the burning of political symbols, including a cap bearing President Bola Tinubu’s signature and the APC broom symbol, followed by a retaliatory burning of Kwankwansiya caps associated with former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. He described the incidents as provocative and warned against actions capable of escalating political tensions in the state.
Jibrin claimed the NDC was attempting to create confusion because it allegedly expected to lose the 2027 election, particularly in Kano South, which he described as a crucial political zone. He accused supporters of the opposition movement of deliberately seeking to trigger a crisis before the official commencement of campaigns, while insisting that the APC would not tolerate attacks or ridicule directed at Tinubu, the Kano governor or the party.
However, his comments that the APC would “retaliate” if provoked have also underscored concerns about the potential for political confrontations to escalate.
Jibrin maintained that the APC does not seek confrontation and would rather focus on campaigning, but insisted that its supporters would defend the party and its leadership against what he described as deliberate provocation.
The remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, raising renewed concerns about the role of political rhetoric and rival party supporters in maintaining peace. With the incidents involving competing political symbols already triggering retaliation, calls for restraint remain critical to preventing campaign-related disputes from developing into broader unrest.
