Jensen Ackles Stuns Fans: Exclusive Details on Next 'The Boys' Series Plans!

Collider's Steve Weintraub recently sat down with stars Jensen Ackles and Laz Alonso to discuss the highly anticipated fifth season of Prime Video's hit superhero series, The Boys, alongside exciting details about the upcoming spin-off, Vought Rising. Season 5 of The Boys is described as being 'like a speeding train,' promising fans the explosive finale they've been craving and aiming to deliver 'everything they wanted to see' as the series concludes.
The final season of The Boys, spearheaded by creator and showrunner Eric Kripke, brings its sharp Supe satire to a head amidst Homelander's increasingly egomaniacal administration. The core group of protagonists finds itself divided, with Annie (Erin Moriarty) striving to establish a resistance against Homelander's formidable Supe forces. Meanwhile, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) wields a potent virus that could irrevocably alter the course of history. Laz Alonso revealed that his character, Mother's Milk (M.M.), will experience a significant transformation in Season 5, becoming more cynical and seeing the world increasingly through Butcher's eyes. M.M. has lost hope and now accepts that 'in order to beat the monster, you might have to become the monster,' indicating a darker path for the character.
Jensen Ackles, who portrays Soldier Boy, also teased a compelling showdown rooted in 'daddy issues' between his character and Homelander. He explained that when a son with 'daddy issues' and a father who also struggles with them are brought together, the resulting generational trauma can manifest in 'pretty vicious words and actions.' Regarding the series finale, Ackles intentionally only read his own scenes, preferring to experience the full impact as a fan. Alonso, while acknowledging the unpredictable nature of final edits, confidently stated that the season begins in 'classic Boys' fashion, fulfilling fan expectations from the outset.
Beyond the flagship series, Ackles provided new insights into Vought Rising, a multi-season spin-off set in the 1950s. This prequel will explore a murder mystery during the nascent stages of Vought International and will feature Aya Cash reprising her role as Stormfront. Ackles noted that the spin-off will 'feel familiar' in its format, leveraging successful elements of The Boys, but will offer a fresh perspective as a period piece. He highlighted the opportunity to see Soldier Boy in his prime, 'relevant' and 'the top dog' in his own environment, contrasting with his 'analog man in a digital world' portrayal in the modern-day The Boys. The series aims to peel back the layers and reveal 'what truly happened in that time,' shedding light on Soldier Boy's origins and eventual trajectory.
During the interview, the actors also shared personal anecdotes about encountering their own heroes. Laz Alonso expressed regret over not asking for pictures with some of his heroes due to shyness, wishing he had seized those moments. Jensen Ackles, while not typically one to ask for autographs as an adult, recounted a recent instance where he leveraged a favor to secure a happy birthday video for his daughter from one of her favorite actors, albeit keeping the celebrity's identity private to avoid embarrassing his child.
The Boys Season 5 is set to premiere its first two episodes on April 8 on Prime Video, with new episodes released every Wednesday thereafter.
