The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the latest figures for registered voters across Nigeria, in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

According to INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, who disclosed these figures at a recent stakeholders’ meeting and press conference held in Abuja, the national voters’ register now stands at a substantial 103,428,715 voters.

This comprehensive update follows the successful completion of a three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which initially recorded 10,772,421 new registrations.

A subsequent rigorous biometric clean-up process ensured the accuracy and integrity of the final register.

Among the states, Lagos State has emerged with the highest number of registered voters nationwide, highlighting its significant demographic weight. The top ten states with the largest number of registered voters are as follows:

1. Lagos State: 7,488,633 registered voters.

2. Kano State: 6,570,276 registered voters.

3. Kaduna State: 4,662,640 registered voters.

4. Katsina State: 3,876,051 registered voters.

5. Rivers State: 3,736,434 registered voters.

8. Benue State: 3,057,225 registered voters.

9. Ogun State: 3,037,981 registered voters.

10. Bauchi State: 3,012,547 registered voters.

In a move to ensure transparency and public confidence in the electoral process, INEC also announced that the newly compiled voters’ register will be displayed nationwide for public scrutiny. This critical period for verification is scheduled to run from October 9 to October 15, 2026.

Furthermore, the collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is slated to commence nationwide on October 9, allowing eligible voters to prepare for the forthcoming elections.
