Air Accident Investigators and Emergency Services were dispatched to Manchester Airport on Saturday, April 11, following a serious incident where an aircraft engineer sustained severe injuries after falling from a Jet2 plane.

The man, believed to be a contractor working for the airline, suffered arm and leg fractures in the fall.

Paramedics were scrambled to the airport at approximately 8 am, as photographs from the scene depicted ambulances and fire service response vehicles gathered around the Jet2 aircraft, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Manchester Airport confirmed the attendance of the North West Ambulance Service to address the incident.

In the aftermath, both Jet2 and the Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) swiftly launched full investigations.

The AAIB confirmed that specialist investigators were dispatched to Manchester Airport on the same day, Saturday, April 11, to commence enquiries into the accident.

A statement issued by the AAIB specified that they were informed of the incident on Saturday and immediately sent a team to the scene.

Visuals captured at the scene showed the aircraft with a door open near its tail, with mobile stairs, typically used for passenger boarding and disembarking, positioned nearby.

It is understood that the Jet2 plane involved in the incident was scheduled for departure to Tenerife.

A spokesperson for Jet2 acknowledged the incident, stating,"We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider."

The airline confirmed that a "full investigation has been launched" and reiterated their commitment to providing support to those affected, while refraining from confirming further details at that time.
