Horror at Disney: Mum's AirTag Tracker Nearly Kills Daughter, Sparks Panic!

A mother's proactive measure to ensure her children's safety at Disneyland took an unexpected and terrifying turn when her four-year-old daughter, Lily Grace, swallowed a button battery from an Apple AirTag. Lisa Marie, who purchased four of the tracking devices to monitor her children during their family trip to the Anaheim, California theme park, found herself in a nightmarish situation after one of the devices malfunctioned and was stored away.
Following their April trip, Lisa had placed the broken AirTags in her car's glovebox, intending to get them repaired. However, on May 23, her plans were tragically interrupted when Lily Grace made a distinct "gulping sound" from the back seat, admitting she had swallowed what she thought was a quarter. Lisa Marie, immediately fearing the worst, realized her daughter had ingested a button battery from one of the stored AirTags.
The distressed parents, Lisa Marie and Markus, 48, who reside in Vancouver Island, Canada, rushed Lily Grace to the hospital. An x-ray scan confirmed their fears: a coin-sized button battery was lodged in her bowel. The family endured an agonizing four-day wait, filled with terror and uncertainty, for the battery to pass naturally. Lily's three siblings were left fearing for their sister's life, highlighting the severe emotional toll on the entire family.
Button batteries pose significant and often fatal risks, capable of causing severe internal damage, including burning through the lining of the oesophagus or bowel to create perforations. The input recounts the tragic death of two-year-old Johnathan Huff in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2020, who succumbed after swallowing batteries from a remote control, which burned through his internal organs. This grave danger underscored Lisa Marie's profound distress during Lily's ordeal, leading her to believe her daughter's "whole insides are burned out" as she tearfully recounted her experience from the hospital floor.
During the critical four-day period, medical professionals confirmed that the battery was already in Lily's bowels, ruling out surgery. The family was sent home with instructions to monitor her, with Lisa Marie taking every possible measure to aid the battery's passage, including administering laxatives, using trampolines and vibration plates, and feeding her daughter prunes. Miraculously, Lily Grace passed the battery naturally and, thankfully, suffered no lasting side effects from the traumatic incident.
Despite the positive outcome, the experience left an indelible mark on Lisa Marie, who had repeatedly warned her children about the dangers of button batteries, issuing her latest caution just two weeks prior to the incident. She openly admitted the profound "irony" that the very devices intended to keep her children safe ultimately became the source of their potential harm. Now, Lisa Marie is issuing an urgent plea to other parents: "If you have any toys that have button batteries in them then throw them out, get rid of them." She stresses the constant challenge of new gifts containing these batteries entering her home, emphasizing the need to "really educate your kids" and to "be over cautious" because "you're never safe."
