Hollywood's New Fab Four Wives: Stars Unveiled for Upcoming Beatles Biopics

The highly anticipated cinematic event, "The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event," helmed by director Sam Mendes, has officially announced the casting of four pivotal female roles. Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood, and Mia McKenna-Bruce are set to portray Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, Pattie Boyd, and Maureen Starkey, respectively. These women were famously married to members of the iconic Fab Four during the peak of their fame and success in the 1960s, with their deals having recently closed and Sony Pictures making the formal announcement.
Mendes expressed his enthusiasm for the casting, stating, "Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right — and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure." The ambitious project consists of four distinct but interconnected biopics, each offering the perspective of one Beatle: John Lennon (Harris Dickinson), Paul McCartney (Paul Mescal), George Harrison (Joseph Quinn), and Ringo Starr (Barry Keoghan). The films will chronicle their journey from unknown musicians in Liverpool in the early 1960s to becoming the biggest band in the world before their eventual breakup in 1970. Notably, this marks the first instance where the band and their descendants have granted music and life rights for a theatrical feature film about them.
The film delves into the lives and relationships of these significant women. Linda Eastman, a photographer, met Paul McCartney in 1967, marrying him in 1969. Post-Beatles, she became a member of McCartney’s band, Wings, and they remained together until her death in 1998. Yoko Ono, a conceptual artist, met John Lennon in 1966. Following Lennon’s divorce from Cynthia Powell (a role yet to be cast) in 1968, Ono and Lennon married in 1969, remaining collaborators until his murder in 1980.
Pattie Boyd, a model, encountered George Harrison on the set of "A Hard Day’s Night" in 1964, marrying him in 1966. They divorced in 1977, and she later married Eric Clapton. Maureen Cox, a hairdresser, began dating Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) in 1962 when she was 16. They married in 1965, had three children, and divorced in 1975. She passed away from leukemia in 1994.
The newly cast actresses bring considerable talent to the project. Saoirse Ronan, a four-time Oscar nominee, recently starred in "Bad Apples." Anna Sawai, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for "Shogun," is set to appear in "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" Season 2. Aimee Lou Wood, known for "Sex Education" and an Emmy nominee for "The White Lotus" Season 3, has also co-created the BBC series "Film Club." Mia McKenna-Bruce, a BAFTA Rising Star award winner for "How to Have Sex," is slated to star in "The Lady" and Claire Denis' "The Fence." Other key roles, including Cynthia Lennon, Brian Epstein, George Martin, and Ravi Shankar, are expected to be cast in the near future. The four-film event is scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2028.
