Heroic Rescue: Nigerian Air Force Frees 76 Hostages from Bandits in Katsina State!

The Nigerian military, through the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), successfully conducted a rescue operation in Katsina State, liberating 76 persons, predominantly children, after an air strike obliterated a bandit hideout. Officials confirmed that the operation, carried out on Friday evening, targeted the notorious enclave of a wanted gang leader identified as Babaro at Pauwa Hill in the Kankara Local Government Area. This decisive action was a direct response to a recent deadly attack and mass abduction orchestrated by Babaro's gang in the Gidan Mantau/Mantau community, an incident that tragically claimed over 50 lives according to one official statement.
Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Katsina State, confirmed the successful rescue of all individuals abducted from Gidan Mantau among the 76 liberated hostages. Regrettably, the operation was not without loss, as one child tragically lost their life during the ordeal. Official photographs released alongside the government's announcement vividly illustrated that the vast majority of the freed victims were underage children, underscoring the severe impact of banditry on the region's youth.
Armed criminal gangs, colloquially known as bandits, have for years terrorised North-west Nigeria. They establish sophisticated camps within extensive forests, from which they launch ruthless attacks on villages, schools, and major highways, primarily to execute mass kidnappings for ransom. Mr. Mu’azu articulated that this specific operation forms a crucial component of a broader, renewed strategy aimed at "dismantling criminal hideouts" and ultimately "putting an end to the cycle of killings, kidnappings, and extortion that have plagued innocent citizens" in the region.
The Katsina State Government lauded the courage and effectiveness of the security forces, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to providing essential logistical and intelligence support to eradicate banditry completely. Commissioner Mu’azu reiterated the state government’s continued dedication to supporting security agencies through enhanced logistics, intelligence-sharing, and community engagement until lasting peace is achieved. Furthermore, citizens were strongly urged to maintain vigilance and proactively provide timely information, which is deemed vital in assisting the ongoing security operations against these criminal elements. With the collective bravery of the forces and the resilience of the populace, Katsina State aims to overcome these threats and achieve enduring stability.
