Harry Styles Electrifies SNL with Fiery Queerbaiting Clapback and On-Air Kiss!

Harry Styles recently returned to host "Saturday Night Live," marking his second time pulling double duty on the iconic NBC sketch comedy series. During his opening monologue, Styles took the opportunity to address the persistent criticism regarding queerbaiting, a topic that garnered significant attention during his previous appearances and tours. He humorously reflected on his last hosting gig in 2019 and the conclusion of his most recent tour in 2023, noting how people focused on his clothing choices and the accusations of queerbaiting.
With a playful tone, Styles confronted the accusations directly, suggesting to an imagined critic, "did it ever occur to you that maybe you don’t know everything about me, dad?" This self-aware quip set the stage for a memorable segment. Later in the monologue, while discussing the nuances of kissing, Styles engaged in a comedic bit where he denied advances from several female cast members, including Chloe Fineman and Sarah Squirm. However, when cast member Ben Marshall approached, Styles cheekily remarked, "Or if you have a tight little bum!" before sharing a full-on smooch, concluding the moment with a triumphant, "Now that’s queerbaiting!" This moment cleverly turned the criticism on its head, using humor to address the public discourse surrounding his sexuality and public image.
Beyond the playful clapback, Styles also shared insights into his recent activities and new music. He mentioned indulging in various hobbies during his time off, including running. The monologue also served as a platform to promote his new album, "Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally," which had been released just the previous week. Styles lightheartedly explained the album's unique title, joking that he generated it by inputting a prompt into ChatGPT for "the most Italian phrase to ever exist," complete with an exaggerated Italian pronunciation.
Styles' extensive history with "Saturday Night Live" was also highlighted. Prior to this second dual role as host and musical guest, he last commanded Studio 8H in November 2019. His musical contributions to the show are also notable, having performed as a musical guest three times with his former band, One Direction, and once as a solo artist. Furthermore, his presence on SNL has been consistent, as he recently made a guest appearance during Ryan Gosling’s hosting stint just the weekend prior, demonstrating his strong connection to the show.
