Gunmen Ambush, Kill Kogi APC Chairman in Shocking Attack
The APC chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ishaq Yunusa, was killed by gunmen, and another person was abducted along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway. Police have confirmed the incident and launched extensive security operations to rescue the victim and apprehend the assailants, urging public vigilance.
Gunmen have tragically killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ishaq Yunusa, and abducted another occupant of his vehicle. The ambush occurred around 5 p.m. on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, specifically near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, confirmed the incident on Friday, detailing that attackers emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists. A blue Toyota Corolla, believed to be the victim's vehicle, was later found abandoned along the highway with Mr. Yunusa dead inside. The second occupant was forcibly taken into the bush by the assailants.
In response to the heinous crime, the Kogi State Police Command has launched intensified security operations. Security personnel, in collaboration with other agencies, are actively combing the surrounding forest areas. Their primary objectives are to locate and rescue the abducted victim and to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Ishaq Yunusa’s remains were evacuated to Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, has ordered sustained security operations along the affected corridor and directed all efforts towards bringing the perpetrators to justice. The police command has also urged motorists and residents along the route to exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
