Grammy Winner Burna Boy Threatens Legal Action Against Defamatory Internet Troll
Templars, a prominent Nigerian law firm, has taken legal action against a social media user identified as Mirex, operating under the handle @mirexmoses on X (formerly Twitter). The firm issued a stern warning concerning a defamatory comment posted on December 7, 2025.
The controversial post stated, "I just finished this Sean Combs Netflix series documentary and I have a theory that Diddy didn't support Burna for free or because he loves or loved his music. Diddy was going to collect, it was a matter of time." In a letter dated January 26, the law firm unequivocally labeled Mirex's publication as "defamatory."
Templars emphasized that the content of the post is "not only untrue but unsubstantiated," asserting that its continued presence and dissemination on Mirex's X account inflict significant harm upon their client's esteemed reputation. The firm further argued that the post "continues to lower our client's estimation in the minds of right-thinking members of the global community," exposing Burna Boy to "hatred, contempt and ridicule," and causing "serious injury to his personal branding and his professional reputation as a globally recognised artist."
The post, which garnered 5,242 views, is understood to imply that Burna Boy might engage in unethical or transactional sexual relationships to advance his professional career and attain fame. Templars strongly maintained that such a publication contravenes X's established policies against abuse, harassment, and other illegal activities. The law firm underscored its belief that the comment was deliberately designed to severely damage Burna Boy's global standing.
Consequently, Templars, through a letter signed by Olufemi Oyewole SAN, demanded the permanent deletion of the contentious post within a strict 48-hour timeframe. The firm explicitly warned of further legal ramifications if the demand is not met within the stipulated period. Burna Boy, a highly acclaimed Grammy-winning artist, is widely recognized as one of the most influential musicians instrumental in the global ascent of Afrobeats.
