Google Unleashes Massive Scholarship Wave for 30,000 African Developers!

Google is significantly ramping up its efforts to enhance developer education across Africa, today announcing the launch of the next cohort for its Google Developer Scholarship program. This initiative is a direct continuation of the tech giant's broader commitment to provide mobile developer training to 100,000 Africans over the coming years, aiming to equip them to become professional developers.
The Google Developer Scholarship is an intensive four-month program designed to train both aspiring and existing professional developers in crucial areas such as Android and mobile web development. Its curriculum is meticulously crafted to support motivated participants in achieving certifications in Google’s Android, Web, and Cloud technologies. These certifications are developed based on a job-task analysis, ensuring they validate the precise skills employers expect from developers in these domains, thereby preparing youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
Highlighting the strategic importance of this investment, Africa is projected to host the world's largest working-age population, estimated at 1.1 billion, by 2034. Google's program directly addresses the need to empower this demographic with relevant and in-demand developer skills.
Building on previous successes, where Google trained 10,000 developers under its scholarship program last year, this new round expands its reach considerably. The company is now offering 30,000 scholarship opportunities, alongside 1,000 grants specifically for Google Associate Android, Mobile Web, and Associate Cloud Engineer certifications.
To effectively deliver this extensive project, Google is leveraging the expertise of two key partners: Andela and Pluralsight. Pluralsight, a prominent online platform for technology and developer training, provides a wide array of up-to-date courses essential for developers to stay current with rapid technological advancements. Andela, a renowned software developer and outsourcing company, plays a crucial role in identifying, developing, and deploying skilled software developers.
This substantial program by Google is poised to play a pivotal role in mitigating the identified scarcity of quality developers on the African continent. By supplying developers with essential resources, data, and tools, the scholarship aims to foster innovation and support the growth of a robust tech ecosystem across Africa.
