Global Recognition! Davido & Sanwo-Olu Set to Be Honored at Prestigious MIPAD 2025 Awards

The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) is set to host a groundbreaking event, the Lagos Diaspora Experience 2025, a vibrant, week-long celebration dedicated to showcasing African art, culture, innovation, and fostering global connections. This significant occasion will culminate in the prestigious End-of-Year Awards & Celebration on Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria. In a historic move, this marks the first time that the world-renowned Most Influential 100 Recognition & Awards Ceremony, traditionally held in New York alongside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), will take place on African soil in Lagos.
The week-long festivities are packed with diverse events designed to engage and inspire. Highlights include Diaspora Day at the Fela Exhibition, themed "Afrobeat Meets Diaspora," offering a unique cultural immersion. Participants can also look forward to Cultural Heritage Day and several Business Leadership Luncheons, all building anticipation for the grand awards celebration. The evening ceremony is dedicated to honoring the "Best & Brightest of the Year," recognizing outstanding individuals and institutions whose tireless efforts have significantly advanced Global African Achievement and Black Excellence across various critical sectors, including business, government, media, culture, and technology.
The 2025 awards will see several prominent figures and entities receiving special recognition. His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, will be celebrated as "Governor of the Year," with Lagos itself being honored as "City of the Year" for its exemplary global leadership in culture, innovation, tourism, and diaspora engagement. Her Excellency Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, will be recognized as "Minister of the Year" for her instrumental role in leveraging the creative economy for nation branding and cultural diplomacy. The "Most Influential Woman of the Year" title goes to Olorì Atúwàtse III, Queen Consort of the Warri Kingdom, while Adewale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of OANDO, will be named "Most Influential Man of the Year." Karl Toriola, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, will be honored as "CEO of the Year" for his transformative leadership and profound impact on Nigeria’s telecommunications and digital economy, and he is also slated to deliver a keynote address.
Further honorees include Uche Pedro of BellaNaija as "Lifestyle Personality of the Year," Ojy Okpe of Arise News as "Most Influential News Anchor of the Year," Stephanie Busari as "Media Executive of the Year," and Kayode Okikiolu as "Pressman of the Year." The music industry will see Davido celebrated as "Artist of the Year." Additionally, Martell Cognac, owned by Pernod Ricard Nigeria, will receive the "Brand Of The Year" award. Michael Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, expressed immense gratitude for the global recognition, stating it was a "great reward for the team" and inviting attendees and consumers to experience "Detty December" in Nigeria, promising exciting future experiences from Martell in the country.
Kamil Olufowobi, Founder & Chairman of MIPAD, emphasized the profound significance of this event: "For the first time, we’re bringing our world-famous recognition platform home to celebrate excellence within the Global Africa Family, right here in Lagos. This is more than an event; it’s a movement uniting the best of us, connecting, collaborating, and working together to change the world." The ceremony will not only celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025 honorees but also acknowledge past Nigerian honorees who were unable to attend their recognition ceremonies in New York. The event details confirm Diaspora Day at Fela Exhibition (free admission) on Friday, December 19th, as part of the #DettyDec celebrations, followed by the strictly by invitation End-of-Year Recognition & Award Ceremony on Sunday, December 21st.
