Global Leaders Descend on UK: Manchester Set to Host Prestigious G20 Summit

Manchester is reportedly set to be confirmed as the host city for next year's G20 gathering, with an official announcement potentially coming as early as this month. Well-placed sources within the city indicate that Manchester Central has been selected as the venue for this annual summit of the world's largest economies. This event is anticipated to be the largest summit ever held in Manchester, inviting global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, to the city centre.

The move to host the G20 in Manchester reportedly originated several months ago, following Andy Burnham's ascent to Prime Minister. It is understood that his initial phone call with Mr. Trump included an invitation to Manchester, which the American President is said to have accepted. This decision aligns with Mr. Burnham's stated commitment to shift power and influence away from London, fulfilling a key promise.

Extensive planning for this enormous gathering is already underway, and it is expected to necessitate the biggest security operation the city has ever witnessed. Manchester Central was identified as the most suitable venue due to its strategic city centre location and its proven track record of successfully hosting major political events, such as the Conservative Party conference, in the past.
