Ghosts Star Hints at Mayhem with Surprising Character Team-Up

In an insightful interview with Collider's Perri Nemiroff, Asher Grodman, who portrays Trevor on CBS's cozy comedy Ghosts, delves into the fifth season's pivotal storylines, character dynamics, and potential future directions for the beloved series. Currently in its fifth season, the show continues to charm audiences by exploring the daily lives and pasts of its deceased residents, alongside B&B owners Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar).
Grodman highlighted the significance of the two-part story in Episodes 4 and 5, particularly Trevor's evolving relationship with his daughter, Abby (Gideon Adlon). Abby's return marks a crucial turning point, as she is the first living character outside of Sam and Jay to be concretely aware of the ghosts' presence. Grodman believes this development 'opens up so many doors' for future narratives, creating a unique dynamic for Trevor as he navigates being a father, a role antithetical to his previous life choices.
Discussing personal anecdotes, Grodman shared memories of his father's clinical laboratory Christmas and Halloween parties, drawing a parallel to the 'Bring Your Daughter to Work Day' theme of Episode 4. He also touched upon his parents' reaction to his pursuit of a BA and MFA in acting, noting a brief conflict over the three-year MFA commitment but ultimately emphasizing their unwavering support.
Grodman praised Gideon Adlon's performance, noting her natural ease and grounded presence as a perfect juxtaposition for Trevor. He recalled the demanding nine-page scene at the end of the two-parter, which Gideon masterfully navigated, showcasing her suitability for the role. The interview also covered the complexities of filming large ensemble scenes, like the Episode 4 reveal, in a small space, which often involves meticulous blocking and multiple props to cover many actors.
The actor also mused on Trevor's challenging '9-to-5 grind,' referring to his Sisyphean effort to interact with physical objects, and expressed a desire for an episode dedicated to exploring the exhausting nature of this task. Furthermore, Grodman discussed Trevor's surprising financial independence, estimating he could be sitting on half a million dollars due to not paying taxes, a humorous irony for a ghost with limited physical power.
Looking ahead, Grodman expressed his hopes for future storylines with Abby, envisioning them collaborating to 'cause mayhem' and manipulate situations for a common purpose, rather than being at odds. He suggested that Trevor has come to accept Abby's independent spirit, recognizing it as similar to his own approach to life. Grodman also shared his aspirations to direct an episode of Ghosts, with a wish list that includes exploring character flashbacks that act as prequels to the show's world-building, and delving into the 'pettiness' and long-standing relationships among the ghosts trapped together for eternity, citing the 'Thorapy' episode as an example of this dynamic.
Lastly, Grodman teased upcoming holiday episodes, including a Christmas two-parter that cleverly uses the construct of a classic Christmas movie to explore the show's defining dynamics. He also lauded the performances of castmates Sheila Carrasco (Flower) and Brandon Scott Jones (Isaac) in a recent debate storyline, highlighting their ability to deliver under tight schedules, and hinted at a
