Ghana's Gafconm Issues Urgent Appeal for Hostel Space
Major Bright Atta Addae, the Acting Principal of the Ghana Armed Forces College of Nursing and Midwifery (GAFCONM) at the 37 Military Hospital, has made a pressing appeal to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for support in constructing additional hostel and lecture facilities. This appeal stems from the significant accommodation challenges and limited teaching spaces currently facing the college, which is struggling to keep pace with its steadily increasing student enrollment.
The call for assistance was voiced during a matriculation ceremony, where 490 new students were formally admitted for the 2025/2026 academic year to pursue Bachelor of Science (BSc) programmes in Nursing and Midwifery. The event also marked the inauguration of a new cafeteria and an office complex, enhancing the college's infrastructure.
Addressing the matriculants and distinguished guests, Major Addae underscored GAFCONM's vital role in training both military and civilian nurses and midwives, who are essential for serving health facilities across Ghana. He reaffirmed the college's unwavering commitment to providing students with the essential scientific knowledge, strong ethical grounding, and practical competence required to excel in the demanding healthcare profession. Furthermore, Major Addae encouraged the matriculants to fully leverage the educational opportunities available to them, urging them to remain disciplined, focused, and dedicated throughout their studies.
Dr. Felix Adom Ashante, the President of the National Defence University, also addressed the new students, emphasizing the paramount importance of discipline and integrity. He stressed that achieving success in higher education demands not only commitment and hard work but also a profound sense of responsibility. Dr. Ashante further advised the matriculants to align themselves with the ethics, traditions, and values of the Ghana Armed Forces, highlighting that the military environment in which GAFCONM operates necessitates an exceptionally high standard of conduct and professionalism from all its students.
