Genesis Unleashes Ultra-Luxury: 2028 GV90 Breaks Cover With Jaw-Dropping Coach Doors

Genesis has unveiled its highly anticipated 2028 GV90, a new flagship luxury EV SUV poised to challenge established premium brands like Cadillac, Range Rover, and Rolls-Royce. This groundbreaking vehicle promises a blend of cutting-edge electric vehicle technology and traditional luxury, bringing features typically found only in concept cars into reality. The GV90 boasts impressive specifications including 657 horsepower, over 310 miles of range, and a lavish interior featuring available coach doors, swiveling seats, and advanced pop-up screens.

A standout feature of the range-topping GV90 Neolun is its pillarless coach doors, a design element not seen on new cars since the mid-1960s due to challenges with structural stability and crash safety. Genesis claims to have overcome these hurdles by integrating a "hidden B-pillar" within the doors themselves, along with significant structural reinforcements and a novel dual-motion hinge. This innovative hinge allows the rear door to open independently of the front, first popping out and then rotating outward via an electric motor. To ensure 21st-century safety standards, the Neolun incorporates high-strength steel beams in the door areas where B-pillars would traditionally reside, complemented by a thick "roll cage" integrated into the vehicle’s frame and a comprehensive airbag system, including a roof airbag. The standard GV90, in contrast, features traditional front and rear doors. Both variants share a clean, uncluttered exterior design and benefit from a body structure made extensively of aluminum with strategic steel reinforcements around the battery pack, aimed at managing curb weight.

The interior of the GV90 offers multiple seating configurations to suit varying needs. The standard 2028 Genesis GV90 provides three rows with seating for up to seven passengers, with an optional six-seat layout featuring either second-row captain's chairs or executive-style seats. The GV90 Neolun elevates luxury further with an "executive suite" configuration, offering four reclining seats and the option of either a third row or a partition behind the second row, alongside an enlarged trunk. A truly unique feature in the Neolun allows the front seats to rotate 180 degrees to face the rear seats when the vehicle is parked, creating a lounge-like environment. Further enhancing the Neolun's opulence are an integrated executive-style second-row console, a refrigerator, pop-out tables, and a heated wood-veneer floor. While the standard GV90 foregoes the heated floor and spinning seats, it retains the same high level of luxury appointments, including an alluring mixture of colors like forest greens and royal purples, textures such as wool and cashmere, and premium materials ranging from traditional wood to stone. The thronelike seats are finished in quilted and tufted leather, each equipped with 15 individual air cells for personalized adjustability and massaging functions.

Technologically, the GV90 showcases cutting-edge innovations, some making their North American debut within the Hyundai conglomerate. The vehicle features a large infotainment screen that measures 23.6 inches while driving and can raise to 24.6 inches when parked, transforming into a cinematic display for content viewing, complemented by a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Dolby Atmos-capable audio system. This experience is powered by Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment software, which draws visual and functional inspiration from Tesla's operating system. Pleos Connect unlocks a broad spectrum of software-defined vehicle functions and customization, including an app store (running on Android's automotive operating system) and an integrated AI agent called Gleo AI. The system allows the driver’s half of the screen to function as a digital dashboard, further supported by a 25.5-inch head-up display with augmented reality capabilities.
