Ford to Introduce Fee for Mustang Mach-E Front Trunk Feature

Ford is shaking things up for 2026 — and not in a way budget-conscious EV buyers will love.

The big headline? The Mach-E’s front trunk (aka the “frunk”), once standard, is now a $495 add-on across all four trims.

That extra cargo space under the hood — one of the perks of going electric — will no longer come included by default.

Ford says the decision came after noticing many owners weren’t fully using the frunk.

But here’s where it gets interesting: even though the base MSRP has dipped slightly (for example, the RWD Select Base drops from $39,990 to $39,850), adding the frunk pushes the real-world price to $40,335 — which is actually $345 more than the comparable 2025 version.

So technically cheaper.

Practically more expensive.

The changes don’t stop there.

The Mach-E Rally trim also loses some standard flair.

Its raised rear spoiler is now a $995 option instead of being included.

The Rally’s starting price drops from $60,485 to $59,735, but once you add the spoiler and frunk, you’re looking at an extra $1,490.

And the Rally decal package? Gone completely — no option to add it back.

What this really signals is a shift in packaging strategy.

Lower headline MSRP, more à la carte features.
