First Look: Bill Skarsgård Unleashes Chaos in 'Dead Man’s Wire' Thriller Trailer!

The true crime genre continues its global dominance, with anticipation building for the upcoming docudrama "Dead Man’s Wire." Row K Entertainment has just unveiled the first official trailer for the film, which promises a gripping portrayal of a notorious true story. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gus Van Sant and penned by Austin Kolodney, "Dead Man’s Wire" delves into the dramatic events surrounding Tony Kiritsis, a man who entered the office of Meridian Mortgage Company President Richard Hall and held him hostage with a sawed-off shotgun.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, with Bill Skarsgård taking on the pivotal titular role of Tony Kiritsis. Skarsgård, widely recognized for his chilling portrayal of Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King’s IT movies and the prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry, brings his distinctive intensity to this complex character. Opposing him as Richard ‘Dick’ Hall is Dacre Montgomery, known for his work in "Stranger Things," marking his return to the screen in a significant role. The ensemble cast further includes Colman Domingo as Fred Temple, veteran actor Al Pacino as M.L. Hall, Cary Elwes as Michael Grable, and Myha’la as Linda Page, ensuring a powerful dramatic experience.
Writer Austin Kolodney revealed that the inspiration for "Dead Man’s Wire" stemmed from a podcast, prompting him to question why this compelling narrative had not yet been adapted for the screen. Kolodney specifically chose Gus Van Sant to direct, praising his remarkable versatility across various genres. Van Sant's distinguished career includes acclaimed projects such as "Promised Land," the 2012 financial drama he worked on with Matt Damon and John Krasinski, and "The Sea of Trees," a 2015 psychological thriller starring Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts, which is currently available for streaming on Tubi and Pluto TV.
"Dead Man’s Wire" is set for release in theaters on January 17, 2026, with a runtime of 105 minutes. The production team includes Cassian Elwes, Joel David Moore, Mark Amin, and Andrea Bucko as producers. As part of its promotional efforts, Collider conducted an interview with writer Austin Kolodney during their Winter Preview Event, which also featured an exclusive first look at Skarsgård and Montgomery in their respective roles. With its compelling true story, talented cast, and experienced creative team, "Dead Man’s Wire" is poised to be a significant addition to the true crime genre.
