FG Reassures Nation: Tinubu Vows to Crush Terrorism Amidst US Collaboration Calls

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reassured its citizens that it is taking decisive action to address recent security challenges across the nation, urging them to remain calm and dismiss any cause for panic as efforts to combat terrorism are significantly intensified. This assurance was delivered by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja. He reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to protecting the lives of its citizens and upholding the constitutional right to freedom of worship without any form of fear or intimidation.
While acknowledging the persistent incidents of violent extremism in certain regions, Minister Idris emphasized that Nigeria's security agencies are proactively engaged in tackling these situations. These efforts are bolstered by close collaboration with regional neighbors and international partners, underscoring a unified approach to national security. The minister highlighted the government's profound concern for every Nigerian life, stating, "The killing of even one Nigerian is of concern to the Government of Nigeria," and reaffirmed the constitutional guarantee of unhindered worship for all citizens.
Addressing speculations regarding instability within the administration, Idris firmly dismissed such suggestions, asserting that President Bola Tinubu and the members of the Federal Executive Council are composed, focused, and united in their resolve. He acknowledged the existence of security issues and unfortunate loss of lives in some areas but stressed that the government is responding with the utmost sense of responsibility, assuring that there is no 'panic mode' within the leadership.
Nigeria continues to strengthen its partnerships with various neighboring countries and global allies, including the United States, to effectively curb terrorism, secure its often-porous borders, and enhance intelligence-sharing mechanisms. The minister underscored the complex nature of tackling terrorism and violent extremism, noting that such challenges cannot be addressed by any single nation in isolation. Diplomatic channels are being actively utilized to foster these crucial collaborations.
Furthermore, the government is committed to continuously reinforcing directives to its security agencies to maintain law and order and ensure the comprehensive protection of citizens nationwide. Minister Idris reaffirmed Nigeria's long-standing tradition of religious tolerance, promising its preservation. He also indicated that the country would continue to welcome international support while vigilantly ensuring that all responses remain consistent with Nigeria's national sovereignty and dignity.
