Federal Revenue Agency FIRS Headquarters Ablaze in Abuja

A fire incident occurred on Saturday morning at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. The blaze, which broke out on the fourth floor of the building, was swiftly brought under control by on-duty security personnel with the crucial support of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders.
FIRS confirmed the incident through a statement, signed by Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman, and also posted on its official X account. The agency reported that thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident. However, a number of offices on the affected fourth floor sustained damage as a result of the fire.
Preliminary assessments and investigations indicate that an electrical fault may have been the cause of the fire, though a full inquiry is currently ongoing. The service commended the prompt response of the emergency teams, noting that their intervention was vital in preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building and helped ensure the safety of employees while minimizing property damage.
In the aftermath, FIRS announced that it has commenced a thorough review of its internal safety measures and protocols. Plans are underway to strengthen existing safety regulations across its facilities to mitigate against any similar incidents in the future.
