Burger King Tests AI Headsets to Monitor Employee Courtesy
Burger King is testing AI-powered headsets in 500 U.S. locations, designed to assist employees with tasks like reciting recipes, tracking inventory, and monitoring customer service.
The system, operated via a voice named “Patty,” delivers real-time alerts—such as low drink supplies or customer reports about cleanliness—and allows staff to update digital menus when items run out.
Patty also tracks the use of courtesy words like “welcome,” “please,” and “thank you” to provide managers with insights for coaching rather than scoring employees.
Burger King emphasizes that this AI tool is meant to enhance efficiency while keeping hospitality “fundamentally human.”
The platform is part of a broader BK Assistant app expected to roll out across all U.S. restaurants later this year.
The initiative reflects a wider trend in the fast-food industry: chains like Yum Brands and McDonald’s are also exploring AI solutions to improve operations, from drive-thru automation to employee support, signaling a significant technological shift in restaurant management.
