Enugu Stalwart Nwoye Demands Governorship Rotation for Stability and Equity

The political landscape of Enugu State, Nigeria, has recently seen a strong affirmation of its established zoning formula for the governorship position, described as crucial for stability, equity, and peaceful coexistence. Dr. Ben Nwoye, the deputy national chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized this point during an event at Okpara Square, Enugu. This gathering also featured prominent political figures, including former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, and former senate president, Ken Nnamani, openly endorsing President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for their respective second terms in office.

Dr. Nwoye articulated that the long-standing rotational arrangement, which allocates the governorship among Enugu State’s three senatorial districts, has been a cornerstone of the peace and political stability the state has enjoyed since the return to democratic governance in 1999. He highlighted that this zoning formula ensures fairness and inclusiveness by providing each senatorial district a legitimate opportunity to produce the governor. "Rotation among the three senatorial districts has given us peace since 1999," Nwoye remarked, underscoring its historical significance and ongoing benefits.

He further elaborated that this systematic approach to power sharing has played a vital role in fostering a collective sense of belonging among the diverse political blocs within the state. By doing so, it has effectively mitigated the tensions and fierce struggles often associated with the contest for political power. Dr. Nwoye strongly urged political leaders and stakeholders across Enugu State to remain steadfast in their commitment to preserving this crucial zoning formula, reiterating its significant contributions to the state's unity and overall development. He stressed that sustaining this peaceful political atmosphere is paramount.

Beyond the discussions on power rotation, Dr. Nwoye also took the opportunity to commend Governor Peter Mbah for what he characterized as remarkable developmental strides achieved across Enugu State. He pointed out that Governor Mbah’s performance has clearly demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing infrastructure and improving governance for the benefit of all residents. Consequently, Nwoye asserted that Governor Mbah deserved unwavering support to secure and complete a second term in office, arguing that continuity in governance is essential to consolidate ongoing projects and reforms, ensuring their full realization for the enduring benefit of the state's populace.

The endorsement ceremony itself was a significant affair, attracting a wide array of attendees. Political leaders, various community representatives, esteemed traditional rulers, and a multitude of supporters converged from across the Enugu East Senatorial District. Their collective presence at the event was a clear public expression of their united support for both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah, signaling a desire for their continued leadership.
