Don't Miss Out! Netflix Bids Farewell to 'Best Movie of the Decade'!

The acclaimed South Korean film "Parasite," directed by the Academy Award-winning Bong Joon Ho, is set to depart from Netflix at the end of January 2026. Viewers will have until January 31, 2026, to watch the critically celebrated movie before it becomes unavailable on the streaming service starting February 1. Released in 2019, "Parasite" captured global attention with its compelling narrative about a poor family's intricate infiltration into the lives and home of a wealthy family. The film features a stellar cast including Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, Park Myung-hoon, and Lee Jung-eun.
"Parasite" has been widely lauded as Bong Joon Ho's magnum opus, earning a Certified Fresh 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics commending Bong's masterful command of his craft and the film's "urgent, brilliantly layered look at timely social themes." Its audience reception is equally impressive, holding a Verified Hot 90% based on over 5,000 ratings. The film's critical and popular success translated into significant industry recognition, as it became the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. This historic achievement was accompanied by three additional Oscars for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film, making it the first South Korean film to receive any Academy Award. Furthermore, "Parasite" was a remarkable financial success, grossing an astounding $258.1 million worldwide against a modest budget of $11.4 million.
Following the film's immense success, an HBO limited series based on "Parasite" was announced to be in early development in January 2020. Bong Joon Ho himself, alongside Adam McKay, is attached as an executive producer. Bong revealed that the series, also titled "Parasite," aims to delve into stories that occur "in between the sequences in the film." While Marvel star Mark Ruffalo was rumored to be cast in February 2020, and Tilda Swinton was confirmed for a lead role before her departure in October 2022, Bong confirmed in February 2025 that the series remains actively in development. With its departure from Netflix imminent, subscribers are encouraged to stream "Parasite" before January 31, 2026, and stay informed on future streaming and film developments by subscribing to relevant newsletters.
