DJ Warras Tragedy: Memorial Held, Police Promise Arrests in Shocking Murder

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has publicly assured South Africans that a suspect linked to the tragic murder of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock will be apprehended before the end of the weekend. DJ Warras was fatally shot on Tuesday in the Johannesburg CBD, outside a building where he was reportedly engaged in providing security services. This solemn announcement was made by Masemola during an oversight visit to Safer Festive Season operations in Pretoria on Friday, an event that also saw the official handover of more than 150 new police vehicles to law enforcement agencies.
During his address, the national commissioner affirmed that police forces have successfully identified a suspect and expressed strong confidence that an arrest is imminent. Masemola stated, “A suspect has been identified and he will be arrested before Monday. We will have the suspect arrested. He is a known suspect and will definitely be arrested, if not today then over the weekend.” This commitment aims to bring swift justice for the well-known media personality.
Concurrently, friends, family, and colleagues gathered in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday for a deeply emotional memorial service to honor the life of Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras. His untimely death, a result of the Tuesday afternoon shooting in the Johannesburg CBD, has sent profound shockwaves throughout the media and entertainment industry. Attendees remembered DJ Warras as an exceptionally passionate and caring individual, characterized by his deep affection for people and his home country, South Africa.
Among those who spoke at the service was acclaimed TV and radio presenter Luthando Shosha, also known as LootLove, who movingly described DJ Warras’s multifaceted and significant roles in the lives of those around him. Shosha shared, “Warras was a dear friend. He was a son, a brother, a father, a colleague, and he was special to many of us in different ways. Today is not easy. We come together with heavy hearts, carrying grief, shock, love and memories all at once.” Tributes consistently highlighted his substantial contributions to broadcasting, his infectious energy, and the widespread positive impact he had both on and off the air, underscoring the immense loss felt across the community.
