Cult Horror Deepens: Kwa Binzaro Deaths Mount, Accountability Demanded

The grim discovery at Kwa Binzaro village in Kilifi County has escalated, with the death toll climbing to 37 after five additional bodies were exhumed from the site. This brings the total number of bodies retrieved to over 30, prompting widespread concern and calls for urgent action. The exhumation exercise has since been temporarily suspended to allow for crucial postmortem examinations to be conducted on the retrieved bodies, while a multi-agency team continues its intensive search for more graves in the area, suspected to be linked to cult-related activities.
Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo has vehemently urged the government to expedite investigations into these tragic deaths, expressing profound disappointment and accusing authorities of a fundamental failure to protect citizens. Speaking at Parliament Buildings, Senator Madzayo raised critical questions regarding the police's awareness and inaction, asking how such a significant number of bodies could be buried without their knowledge. He demanded immediate answers from the police, specifically the Inspector General, questioning how a horror of this magnitude could unfold less than two years after the devastating Shakahola massacre.
Senator Madzayo further emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “How many bodies must be dug out of our soil before you admit there is a fundamental breakdown in intelligence and security?” He also put forward the unsettling claim that many of the victims might not be local residents, suggesting the possibility that they were killed elsewhere and their bodies subsequently transported to Kwa Binzaro. He criticized the police's failure in both detecting and preventing such a crime, highlighting the unknown origins of the victims and the locations where they were murdered.
In addition to demanding accountability for the Kwa Binzaro tragedy, Senator Madzayo called upon the government to address the long-standing issue of bodies from the Shakahola massacre. These approximately 300 bodies have been stored in a container outside Malindi District Hospital for nearly two years, a situation he asserts has significantly stalled the hospital's development and expansion plans. To prevent future atrocities in Kwa Binzaro and ensure community safety, Madzayo also demanded the immediate establishment of a permanent police post in the village.
