Crucial Election Update: ADC to Resume Presidential Primary Results Collation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised to recommence the crucial collation of results for its presidential primary election. The exercise, which was temporarily halted late on Tuesday night, is scheduled to resume by 8 p.m. on Wednesday. This resumption follows a brief suspension announced after results from 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had already been made public.
The collation process, a key event for the party, took place at the prestigious Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. Party officials indicated that the remaining results would be meticulously collated before the eventual winner of the primary election is officially declared.
Three prominent aspirants are vying for the ADC's presidential ticket. These include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and the distinguished economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. Before the suspension of the collation, preliminary results clearly showed Atiku Abubakar maintaining a significant lead over both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen.
However, the primary election has not been without its controversies. Both Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen had earlier voiced their rejection of the conduct of the primaries. Their grievances centered on allegations of widespread irregularities, significant manipulation, and the disenfranchisement of their supporters throughout the exercise. These protests from two of the leading aspirants have undeniably heightened the tension surrounding the collation process, even as party officials diligently work towards its completion and the ultimate declaration of results.
