Corvette Crisis: Stop-Sale and Massive Recall Hits 2025-26 Models Over Critical Turn Signal Flaw!

General Motors has issued a crucial stop-sale and recall for certain 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet Corvettes due to a significant safety concern related to the vehicle's rear turn signals. This measure, confirmed by MotorTrend despite not yet appearing on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website, impacts thousands of units and prevents dealers from selling affected cars until a repair is performed.
The core of the issue lies within a faulty software component in the exterior lighting control module. This defect may prevent the system from notifying the driver if the rear turn signals become inoperable or stop working. Such a malfunction is a direct violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS), which mandates that vehicles not only possess functional turn signals but also actively alert the driver in the event of a failure. The absence of such notification significantly increases the risk of a crash, as other road users would be unaware of the driver's intention to turn or change lanes.
Fortunately, the resolution is a relatively straightforward software update. Corvette owners who have enabled over-the-air (OTA) software updates on their vehicles can expect to have the fix applied wirelessly from any location with a wireless signal. For those who have not enabled OTA updates, or whose vehicles are still on dealer lots, the update will need to be performed manually by a technician at a Chevrolet dealership. Owners can ascertain if their specific Corvette is affected by entering its 16-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on GM's official recall website.
While the fix is a software update, its availability is currently staggered. Information from dealer software portals, as corroborated by Corvette Blogger and members of the Mid Engine Corvette Forum, indicates that the necessary software update is presently only available for 2026 model year Corvettes. Owners of affected 2025 models will, unfortunately, have to wait as the software for their specific model year is still under development. The recall affects 438 units of the 2025 model year and a larger contingent of 2,886 units from the 2026 model year. Many of these 2026 models are reportedly still within dealer inventory, allowing for swift updates by technicians before they are sold.
