Classic Hit Returns! Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’ Debuts on Hot 100 Five Decades After Release

Fleetwood Mac's timeless 1975 studio recording of “Landslide” has finally entered the Billboard Hot 100, landing at No. 41 on the Jan. 17 chart. The historic debut follows the song's prominent feature in the series finale of Netflix’s hit show, Stranger Things, released on December 31. Between January 2 and 8, the track amassed 7 million official U.S. streams—a 43% week-over-week increase—while radio audience impressions rose 10% to 888,000, and downloads grew 15% to 1,000, according to Luminate.
Originally released in July 1975 on Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled 10th studio album, Fleetwood Mac marked the first record featuring Stevie Nicks as a vocalist and Lindsey Buckingham on guitar. Nicks penned “Landslide” and provided its lead vocals. Despite its enduring popularity, the studio version was never issued as a single at the time.
Over the years, “Landslide” has remained a fixture in Fleetwood Mac’s live shows and Nicks’ solo performances. A live rendition from the band’s 1997 album The Dance debuted on the Hot 100 in July 1998, peaking at No. 51 and performing well on other charts, including No. 10 on Adult Contemporary and No. 26 on Adult Pop Airplay.
The song has also inspired numerous successful covers. The Chicks’ version reached No. 7 on the Hot 100 in 2003, while the Glee cast, featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, peaked at No. 23 in 2011. Smashing Pumpkins’ cover hit No. 3 on Alternative Airplay and No. 30 on Radio Songs in 1994, and renditions by Kat Perkins and Chloe Kohanski from NBC’s The Voice charted on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs in 2014.
With the studio version’s Hot 100 debut, Fleetwood Mac logs its 26th career entry and first in 23 years, following 2003’s “Peacekeeper” at No. 93. The group’s most recent appearance prior to that was 2020, when their 1977 No. 1 hit “Dreams” re-entered the chart after a viral TikTok video featuring Nathan Apodaca, eventually peaking at No. 12.
“Landslide”’s entry makes Fleetwood Mac one of the few bands to debut on the Hot 100 in five consecutive decades: the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s, and ‘20s. This places them alongside elite acts such as The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, with The Isley Brothers leading the pack with six decades of Hot 100 entries.
