Chaos on Great Ancoats Street: Three Injured in Manchester City Centre Bus Crash

Emergency services responded to a serious collision involving a bus and a car on Great Ancoats Street in Manchester city centre on Tuesday, September 15. The incident occurred just before 1pm, with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) receiving reports at 1.09pm regarding the crash.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) confirmed that six people were assessed at the scene. Three individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, with one person reported to be in a serious condition. Among those hospitalized were both the bus driver and the motorist of the car involved in the collision.

According to Greater Manchester Police, it is believed that the driver of the car suffered a medical episode just prior to colliding with the bus. This detail is central to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Following the incident, a significant section of Great Ancoats Street was closed off to traffic between Old Mill Street and Pollard Street. There was a heavy presence of police, fire crews, and ambulances at the scene, which is located near the canal, as emergency personnel worked to manage the situation and assess injuries.

A spokesperson for NWAS stated, "We saw six patients on scene. Three went to hospital; one of those in a serious condition." GMP added, "Officers were called at 1.09pm to Great Ancoats Street in the city centre to reports of a collision between a car and a bus. Emergency services are at the scene assessing injuries and enquiries are ongoing."

Alison Chew, bus network director at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), commented on the incident, saying, “We’re working with the emergency services as they respond to a collision involving a bus and a car on Great Ancoats Street this afternoon (15 September). Our thoughts are with the drivers, passengers and anyone else affected by the collision. We will work with the operator to establish what happened and support the police in their investigation.”
