BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Rekindles Impeachment War Against Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has once again initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. At a plenary session on Thursday, the state legislature formally kicked off the process, leveling accusations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara and his deputy. This marks the second instance within a mere 10-month period that the Assembly has moved to impeach the Governor, highlighting an ongoing political crisis within the state.
During a similar move on a previous occasion, President Bola Tinubu intervened significantly. In what was reported as a declaration of a state of emergency on Rivers State, President Tinubu effectively suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly. This presidential action, which occurred some time ago, was widely believed by many commentators to have successfully thwarted the impeachment attempt against Fubara, who was at that time embroiled in a contentious conflict with his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The political landscape has seen shifts since the earlier confrontation. Governor Fubara is now identified as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Conversely, Nyesom Wike, while remaining a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is reportedly championing a broad 'rainbow coalition' within Rivers State to support President Tinubu's bid for re-election in 2027. This complex political dynamic continues to unfold, underscoring the deep-seated divisions and allegiances at play in the state's governance.
