Boxing World Awaits: Errol Spence Jr. Makes Blockbuster Return Against Tim Tszyu in June
Former unified welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr. is reportedly set to end his nearly three-year hiatus from boxing, with sources confirming to ESPN on Tuesday that he will face former junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu in Australia this June.
This highly anticipated fight, initially reported by Ring Magazine, will mark Spence's debut in the 154-pound division and is slated to headline a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view event. Potential dates for the showdown are either June 6 or June 13, with the specific venue in Australia yet to be determined.
Spence, 35, last competed in July 2023, where he suffered a significant defeat at the hands of Terence Crawford in a bout for the undisputed welterweight championship. In that devastating loss, Spence was knocked down three times and ultimately stopped in the ninth round.
Following this setback, Spence remained largely out of the public eye, leading to speculation that his career might be over.
However, rumors of his comeback began circulating in early 2025, with early reports linking him to a fight against WBC junior middleweight champion, Sebastian Fundora, a matchup that ultimately did not come to fruition as Fundora pursued other opportunities.
His opponent, Tim Tszyu, 31, has faced his own challenges in recent years. After an impressive start to his career with a 24-0 record, Tszyu has experienced a difficult period, losing three of his last four fights, two of which came by stoppage.
His struggles include a rematch loss to Sebastian Fundora last July. However, Tszyu bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Velazquez in December.
Tszyu (26-3, 18 KOs) is reportedly aiming to secure an interim fight in March, potentially on the undercard of the Lewis Crocker vs. Liam Paro event in Australia, before his prospective summer clash with Spence.
It remains unclear whether the outcome of this preliminary fight will impact the highly anticipated summer showdown with Errol Spence Jr.
