Borno Under Siege: Troops Heroically Repel ISWAP Attack, Officers Wounded

Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Benisheikh in Borno State. The military's swift response on April 14, 2026, around 11:15 p.m., effectively prevented an attempted overrun of the town, forcing the insurgents to retreat.
The incident involved soldiers from the Headquarters 29 Task Force Brigade who came under heavy assault but were able to hold their ground and push back the attackers. Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this development via his X handle, citing security sources.
During the intense exchange of gunfire, no soldier was reported killed, a testament to the troops' resilience and strategic defense. However, three personnel sustained injuries and were promptly evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment. The military indicated that the number of casualties among the attackers could not be immediately confirmed, with follow-up operations currently underway to track fleeing fighters and assess the full extent of the damage.
Officials noted that while the overall security situation in the Benisheikh area remains calm following the engagement, it is still considered unpredictable, highlighting the persistent threats in the region.
