BMW M2 xDrive Drops Jaws: 2027 Model Gains AWD, Keeps Legendary Drift Prowess!

BMW is set to introduce the 2027 M2 xDrive, finally bringing its M-tuned all-wheel-drive system to the acclaimed M2.
This addition addresses a previous omission from the G87 M2's lifecycle, a model that has already garnered significant praise, having been a finalist for the 2026 MotorTrend Car of the Year and winning the 2024 MotorTrend Performance Vehicle of the Year.
Expected to arrive late this summer, the M2 xDrive aims to satisfy customers seeking high-performance, all-season driving capabilities.
The M xDrive system is engineered to maintain the M2's renowned agility despite powering the front wheels.
It utilizes an electronically controlled multiplate clutch in the transfer case to intelligently distribute engine power between the axles.
Crucially, the system maintains a rear-drive bias, with all power directed to the rear wheels during normal driving conditions.
Power is only sent to the front wheels when sufficient slip is detected, ensuring dynamic handling remains a priority.
Complementing this, the vehicle incorporates an Active M Differential, M-tuned traction control, and Dynamic Stability Control software, all working in concert to provide predictable responses, enhanced stability, and superior traction.
For driving enthusiasts who prefer the purity of rear-wheel-drive, especially on racetracks, the M2 xDrive offers a unique solution.
Through the M Setup menu, drivers can configure the system to operate in a dedicated rear-drive mode with stability control deactivated.
This allows for all power to be sent to the rear wheels, enabling throttle-oversteer and drifting experiences.
This capability is part of the extensive character personalization available within the M xDrive system via the M Setup menu, allowing drivers to tailor various performance attributes to their preference.
One notable change with the M2 xDrive is that it will exclusively be offered with BMW’s eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
While this means the absence of a manual transmission option for the AWD model, the automatic gearbox, combined with the all-wheel-drive system and a potent 473-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo I-6 engine, delivers impressive performance.

The 2027 BMW M2 xDrive is projected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 3.6 seconds, a 0.3-second improvement over theRWD version, thanks to its enhanced off-the-line traction.
The standard top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, which can be raised to 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.
In terms of hardware, the new M2 xDrive will come standard with 19x9.5-inch wheels at the front and 20x10.5-inch wheels at the rear, with the option for track-specific tires.
Braking performance is handled by six-piston front brake calipers and single-piston rear calipers, both equipped with M Compound pads and rotors, ensuring formidable stopping power.
