Bloodbath in Niger: Bandits Massacre 32 Farmers, Abduct Scores, Torch Homes in Horrific Attack!

At least 32 farmers were reportedly killed in a series of coordinated bandit attacks on Tugan-Makeri, Konsoko, and Pissa communities within the Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State. The attacks, which occurred recently, involved over 200 armed bandits who operated for several hours, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
The first assault took place at Tunga-Makeri in Konkoso Ward around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday. During this initial invasion, six individuals lost their lives, several houses were set ablaze, and an unspecified number of people were abducted. Residents recounted the terrifying dawn raid that shattered the peace of the community.
Following the attack on Tunga-Makeri, the bandits proceeded to invade Konsoko and Pissa communities at approximately 6:00 a.m. the same day. In these subsequent assaults, 26 additional lives were reportedly lost as the attackers indiscriminately fired shots. The scale of destruction was severe, with multiple buildings, including a police outpost, being set on fire. The precise number of casualties in the Pissa community, specifically in Kabe/Pissa, has yet to be fully ascertained.
Hassan Abdullahi, a local resident, informed journalists that the extensive attacks commenced around 6:00 a.m. and continued for approximately four hours, concluding around 10:00 a.m. He also noted the remote nature of the affected communities, situated about 200 kilometers from the Nigerian Air Force Base in New Bussa, which serves as the headquarters of Borgu LGA.
The Niger State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed key aspects of the incident. Abiodun stated that a report was received on February 14, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., detailing the invasion of Tunga-Makeri village via Shafachi District at about 3:00 a.m. He corroborated the death of six persons, the burning of houses, and the abduction of an unconfirmed number of individuals in Tunga-Makeri. While acknowledging that the bandits subsequently moved to Konkoso village, Abiodun emphasized that detailed information regarding the attack there remained sketchy. Joint security teams have since been mobilized to the affected areas for assessment, and efforts to rescue the abducted victims are currently underway.
