Bitcoin Defies Odds, Soars Past $86,000 Despite Regulatory Setback!

Last week, long-anticipated crypto legislation, known as the Clarity Act, failed to advance in Congress, yet Bitcoin buyers appeared unfazed as the leading cryptocurrency’s price surged by nearly 7% over a 24-hour period.

This unexpected rally occurred just six days after lawmakers blocked the proposed market structure bill, which aimed to establish clear regulatory rules for the rapidly evolving digital asset industry.

The crypto market structure bill did not progress primarily due to disagreements among Democrats regarding the ethics side of the legislation.

A central point of contention for Democratic lawmakers was the potential conflict of interest arising from the Trump family’s extensive crypto holdings.

President Donald Trump and his sons had launched a series of digital asset ventures leading up to his return to office, with his financial disclosure reporting approximately $1.4 billion in crypto-related income.

While the White House maintained that Trump’s assets were managed in a trust by his children, asserting no conflict existed, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, a vocal critic of the crypto industry, warned Congress that the bill posed “a massive risk to families” prior to the vote.

Despite the legislative setback, Bitcoin's price resiliently shrugged off the bill's collapse, recently reaching $86,225 after touching an intraday high of $86,247. Over a 30-day period, the digital coin has appreciated by 10%.

This phenomenal run began in August, marking its best performance in years, following the U.S. Treasury's announcement of plans to at least double its liquidity-support buyback operations.

The asset’s price received further impetus the same week when President Trump hosted a meeting at the White House with crypto industry leaders, urging lawmakers to pass what he described as the “powerful” Clarity Act.

Beyond political developments, other factors contributed to Bitcoin's robust performance. Both the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are pressing forward with their own rulemaking initiatives.

Furthermore, U.S. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced positive net flows last week, reversing an earlier trend of investor withdrawals.

Specifically, on Thursday and Friday, investors purchased nearly $593 million in shares across products managed by major firms such as BlackRock, Fidelity, and Grayscale.

Even the Federal Reserve's expected interest rate hike last week did not deter Bitcoin's upward trajectory, highlighting the cryptocurrency's ability to perform well regardless of conventional monetary policy shifts, recalling its historical strength in low-interest rate environments.
