Be Honest: Are You Actually Funny or Just Loud? Find Your Humour Type
If we were to be thoroughly honest with ourselves, we’d know that not everyone who is always laughing, always performing is actually funny. Some of you are just loud and your friends are too kind to tell you.
Now before you click the exit button, hold on. This is not an attack and I might be actually doing you a great service helping you find your humour type and key into it.
Humour is a language. And like every language, people speak it differently. Some are quite fluent, some are still learning, and some of you are confidently speaking the wrong dialect in the wrong room.
So before you forward that next joke or launch into another story nobody asked for, let's figure out what type of funny you actually are.
The Sarcastic Assassin
Like the title suggests, you die on the hill of sarcasm.
You don't just tell jokes. You make observations and somehow those observations leave people laughing and slightly injured at the same time. One sentence or a completely flat delivery is enough for maximum damage.
Now that damage — whether they will be rolling in laughter or starting a ten-year grudge — depends on the receiver’s sense of humour.
At family gatherings, you are both the most entertaining and the most feared person at the table. Aunties have learned to not ask you certain questions. You consider this a win.
The Meme Machine
Your love language is a well-timed forward. You don’t always have words, but you always have a memeand honestly, it usually says everything that needs to be said without drawing hilarious images with words.
You are the MVP of every group chat and significantly less impressive in person. You have made peace with this. The internet connection is good at home anyway.
The Storyteller
You have the potential to beat every narrator out there in Hollywood(or Nollywood – your preference) but you don’t take it seriously.

You went to the market to buy tomatoes and thirty-five minutes later, your audience, gripping their stomachs hard, heard about the bus driver, his attitude, the woman who got involved, the near-accident at the junction, and a spiritual lesson you somehow extracted from all of it.
You do voices, you do sound effects. Nobody asked for this level of production but nobody is leaving either.
The Dark Humour Specialist
In the African landscape, your humour is likely to land you in front of a Pastor holding brooms to drive away spirits, but hey, you are just funny in adark way.
You find the funny in places most people won't even look. The economy, a gory situation, the thing that happened that everyone agreed was sad and you somehow made it funny, and now people feel guilty for laughing.
You are not for every audience, and you know it. The right circle gets you completely. Everyone else is still deciding if they should report you.
The Class Clown (a.k.a. The Noise Maker)
Loud, energetic and always ready to perform. You are present in every room and you want everyone to know it.
Sometimes the jokes land and the energy is infectious. Sometimes, you are just making a sound.
Your friends love you. They are also sometimes exhausted by you. It is a complicated relationship built on genuine affection.
The Accidental Comedian
You are not trying. You have never tried. You said something completely normal last Tuesday and three people fell off their chairs and you are still confused about why.
Your humour cannot be studied or replicated. It simply exists. You are a gift that does not know it is a gift, and that somehow makes it funnier.
The Inside Joke Person
Technically, you are hilarious. But the catch is it is within a very specific radius of about three people who have known you since secondary school. Step outside that radius and the joke evaporates.
Outsiders smile politely. Your people are on the floor. You are not bothered. The group chat understands you, and that is enough.
Quick — Which One Are You?
When something awkward happens, you:
A. Make one dry comment and go completely silent

B. Already have a meme ready before the moment even ends
C. Begin narrating what just happened in real time, with full context
D. Laugh at the part of it that you absolutely should not be laughing at
When your joke doesn't land, you:
A. Weren't expecting them to get it anyway
B. Send another meme immediately — a better one
C. Explain the full backstory so they understand why it was funny
D. Laugh alone, completely unbothered, because you thought it was hilarious
Your results are whatever you already suspected they were. You knew before you even started reading.
Now, funny is not a volume setting. The funniest people in most rooms are rarely the loudest ones. They are the ones who know their style, trust it, and understand who they are talking to.
Because the same joke that breaks your close friends apart can land completely flat in a different room and that is not failure, that is just mismatch.
Know what kind of funny you are. Lean into it. And please, if three separate people have gone quiet after your last joke, take the note.
