ASKY Opens New West African Gateway with Kano-Niamey Route
ASKY, The Pan-African Airline, will launch a new scheduled service between Kano, Nigeria, and Niamey, Niger, on September 2, 2026. This route aims to strengthen historical, cultural, and commercial ties while offering more convenient travel and unlocking new economic and tourism opportunities. The service highlights a growing trend towards enhanced intra-African connectivity.
ASKY, the Pan-African airline, is set to launch a new scheduled service between Kano and Niameyon September 2, 2026, making Kano the 31st destination in its network spanning more than 30 cities across 28 African countries.
The route is expected to strengthen the long-standing commercial, cultural and historical ties between Nigeria and Niger, while providing a faster direct travel option between the two cities. Operated through ASKY’s Lomé hub, the service will also give passengers from Kano access to onward connections to destinations including Abidjan, Dakar, Accra, Cotonou, Ouagadougou, Douala, Libreville, Brazzaville and Kinshasa.
The new connection revives an important regional corridor that historically linked Kano with markets across the Sahel and North Africa through trans-Saharan trade. Kano’s historic commercial importance and Niamey’s position along the Niger River provide opportunities for cultural, heritage and educational tourism, while improved air access could also facilitate trade in agricultural products, livestock, textiles and consumer goods.
For travel agencies and tour operators, the route creates possibilities for new multi-city itineraries connecting previously underserved destinations. Established in 2010 with strategic backing from Ethiopian Airlines, ASKY has developed its Lomé hub into an important link between West and Central African markets.
