APC Civil War? Governor Eno Unleashes Fury on 'PDP Moles'

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has raised significant concerns regarding political intrigue within his administration and the broader state political landscape. Speaking at a special inter-denominational thanksgiving service marking the State's 38th anniversary, Governor Eno openly accused certain individuals, whom he described as 'moles' from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) operating under the guise of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of attempting to destabilize his political structure with the aim of truncating his re-election bid in 2027.
The Governor specifically referred to some of his appointees who had ostensibly defected to the APC on June 6, 2025, as 'wolves in sheep's clothing'. He issued a stern warning that their 'betrayal antics' would be addressed decisively at the appropriate time. Questioning their motives, he asked, "You fight structure, fight structure, what are you going to do with my structure?" He drew parallels with past governors who faced similar political racketeering by mischief-makers, asserting that he would not tolerate such disloyalty from those expected to be his loyalists.
Despite previously remarking on his perceived lack of power compared to figures like the FCT minister, Governor Eno, visibly agitated, affirmed his commitment to personally verify the allegiance of his appointees. This would involve taking an inventory of authentic loyalists who genuinely joined the APC, evidenced by their membership cards in their respective wards, to ensure fidelity to his political cause.
During the event held at the International Christian Worship Centre (ICWC) in Uyo, the state capital, Governor Eno also delivered a strong message to his political detractors. He urged them to repent and declared unequivocally that he would not countenance any opposition to his aspiration for a second term. He unveiled details of his monitoring efforts, stating, "Most of you (the appointees) attend the APC meeting in the day and in the night you attend that of PDP," indicating that extensive 'monitoring tentacles' had been spread across the State to identify those engaging in double-dealing politics as 2027 approaches.
In a bold declaration, Governor Eno vowed to make surprise appearances at such clandestine meetings to expose individuals playing parallel politics. He reiterated his unwavering resolve to resist such divisive efforts, emphasizing his mission to foster a united Akwa Ibom State and expressing dismay at opponents who continue to promote discord. Consequently, he implored the citizenry to embrace forgiveness and shun unnecessary acrimony that could jeopardize the peace and unity of the State.
"Let’s come together in love, forgive one another and let us move together. Let us plan and work for the common good of our State. That is my earnest desire," Governor Eno passionately appealed. He underscored the importance of patriotism, urging all citizens, irrespective of political affiliations, to show interest in the State's progress. He issued a "clarion call" to "Rise above Ethnicity," parochialism, and deep-seated hatred, firmly stating, "You will not have any other state apart from this one. We have only one united Akwa Ibom. I took over a united State of Akwa Ibom, and such shall I handover, nothing shall divide us."
Furthermore, Governor Eno acknowledged and valued the contributions of all past leaders, pledging continued collaboration, respect for their services, and a commitment to honoring their legacies. He commended the exemplary unity, maturity, and understanding displayed by the leadership of various political parties in the State, and extended his appreciation to past leaders and stakeholders for their attendance at the thanksgiving service.
Concluding his address, the Governor expressed gratitude to the people for their steadfastness, support, and unwavering belief in the State’s potential for greater impact. He also reminded the populace about the ongoing voters’ registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), encouraging everyone to register in preparation for future elections, reinforcing the democratic process vital for the state's future.
